The MPB, or Música Popular Brasileira is pop music in its most literal sense. It’s the music of the people. In the meantime, it’s not only samba and bossa, but also anything that makes a sound, as Daniela Mercury and Carlinhos Brown will show us. Both of them are from Salvador de Bahia, Brazil’s most multicultural city, and both have been stars the world over for a long time. Back home, their fans sing along as they are carried by their simple rhythms and they know all of their lyrics and stories by heart. And  the stars of MPB came to Basel, conjured up a bit of Brazilian heat to warm up the cold November.
