Behind the Scenes #11

Brought to you by ...

It was a highlight for the Baloise Session – and for him personally: Marc Sway opened this year's Baloise Session with a magnificent concert. The Backline Blog accompanied him on the way to this dream performance and provides exclusive insights into the creative process and the versatile personality of Marc Sway. «I was really pleased to come here. And that's because playing at the Baloise Session has been on my bucket list for many, many years,’ reveals the Swiss singer, songwriter and pop star with Brazilian roots. He describes the opening of the renowned music festival in Basel as a ‘particularly great privilege’, and his anticipation of the performance is already evident at the Baloise Session media conference.

In the Powerplay Studio in Maur ZH, where music greats such as Prince have recorded, Marc Sway gives an insight into his songwriting methods. «I think for me it's always roots stuff because I'm half-Brazilian: Brazilian music, African-American music, which are very strong influences on me, are always part of my music,» he reveals. For Sway, the balance between studio technique and live performance is crucial. «A really good song will also work live because it's simply a good song,’ he emphasises. This philosophy is reflected in his rousing concert, with which he thrilled the Baloise Session. It also gave him the opportunity to share the stage with the legends Take That. Marc says of such encounters: «We are all musicians, we are all craftsmen, we all have a great passion and a passion for music and for songs». After his performance, Marc Sway summarises emotionally: «What happened tonight, I think, is something that is unforgettable for me: there is something that musicians describe when they say that «magic» happens». If you would like to find out more about Marc Sway's musical journey and his experiences at the Baloise Session, the Backline Blog offers a fascinating insight into the world of one of Switzerland's most successful pop stars.
